My Achievement
I am Pinaki Chakraborty, currently based in Kolkata, where I am leading a revival and growth journey in the traditional handloom textile industry. Although I hail from a business family, I took the entrepreneurial path under challenging circumstances-our family business was discontinued following the untimely demise of my father.
After completing my undergraduate studies, I began my professional journey in the confectionery sector. However, I soon realized my passion lay elsewhere. Motivated to carry forward my father’s legacy, I decided to revive our traditional handloom textile business-originally founded in 1980 and one of the oldest in Eastern India.
With the support of my mother and elder cousin sister, I rebranded the company as PR Kabita Textiles, and together we launched Thread Artistry, a brand that celebrates the exquisite craftsmanship of rural artisans from West Bengal. Our mission is to bring the elegance of hand-stitched thread work to the global stage, highlighting the cultural and artistic richness of Bengal.
Today, more than 3,000 artisans are associated with our venture. We have built artisan clusters within village communities, ensuring that funds and support reach them directly-empowering them financially and socially. Our initiative has contributed to lifting numerous families out of poverty while preserving a rich cultural heritage.
In 2024, I had the honor of representing India at the India Fashion Show in Italy, co-hosted by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and its Italian counterpart. Showcasing our handwoven sarees-a timeless symbol of Indian womanhood-on an international platform was a defining moment in our journey.
Our products now reach global markets through a network of buyers and resellers. The recognition of our artisans’ work abroad fuels my drive to keep innovating, expanding, and giving back to the community. I strongly believe that entrepreneurship rooted in tradition can be a powerful force for social change.
Cocoon Selection

Dyeing the Yarn
The silk yarns are dyed in rich, vibrant colours using skin-safe, eco-friendly dyes.
Warping & Setting the Loom
Threads are precisely arranged on the loom to prepare the base structure of the saree
